The SpaceX CEO hinted that a manned expedition to Mars could happen as early as 2029.
Life on Mars
Kids are always told to reach for the stars. And in some ways, Elon Musk is a big kid. Sure, he’s one of the richest men in the world, but he also recently claimed he would be willing to fight Vladimir Putin – and his bear. So, it’s unsurprising that a trip to the galaxy far, far away has long been on Musk’s agenda.
Back in 2016 (ah, the before times), Musk spoke of building a rocket capable of transporting people to Mars and building a permanent city on the planet. And while some Dune-like utopia is probably a little far off, he’s doubled down on his intentions to get out there – responding to his own tweet about a guess for a Mars landing with the answer: 2029.
Make your mind up, Elon
Musk does have a tendency for throwing dates out into the stratosphere, without much to back it up. In 2020, he revealed his hopes that SpaceX would build 1,000 starships over 10 years, with the ambition of putting a million people on Mars by 2050. He even went as far as to say that he was “highly confident” of getting humans to the red planet by 2026.
So, come on Elon. We need to book our vacation time in. Getting a date in the calendar would be a good start.
