Passing as a baller can help pay the bills.
Crazy rich Americans
There’s a line in ‘Sit Down’, a song by the band James, that goes, ‘If I hadn’t seen such riches, I could live with being poor’. It might have been written in the 80s, but as displays of excessive wealth and ‘aspirational’ lifestyles clog up our timelines every day, it has a timeless relevance.
But don’t they always say, ‘fake it ‘til you make it’? Mic has delivered some tips on how to ‘pass’ as rich – and why in doing so, you’re taking steps to become a walking, self-fulfilling prophecy.
The first rule of rich club…
What do you not do when you’re passing as rich? Talk about money, of course. According to Mic, “Rich people only talk about money when it belongs to someone else. They don’t tell you how much they have, but they are quick to affiliate themselves with other rich people”. So, note that one down.
Other tips, like being vague about what you do, and forgetting about brand names, can set you on a path to blending in with the richest of the rich. Ultimately, if you can rub shoulders with those at the top of the food chain, and not look out of place, they’ll think you belong there. And who knows – perhaps soon you will.
