HBO’s celebrated series has broken the record for most acting nominations in a single year.
The Roys reap the rewards
If you haven’t seen Succession, you need to drop everything and get on it immediately. And if you have, then the success of the show has no doubt come as little surprise. The story of the revoltingly rich Roy family has captured the hearts and minds of millions across the globe, and the latest series – arguably the best yet – has swept up a record-breaking number of Emmy nominations.
On Tuesday morning, it was announced that the show had picked up a staggering 25 nominations. 14 of those were in the acting category, breaking the previous record of 13 held by Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man.
The next episode
The history-making show has long been a favorite of the Academy. Its second season garnered 18 nominations last year, and with a fourth season currently in the works, who knows if the show could break its own record in the years to come?
While Succession is taking the headlines, other hit shows have also raked in the nominations. Lovable soccer coach Ted Lasso scored big with 20 nods, while The White Lotus also hit the same number. Alongside the likes of Hacks and Only Murders in the Building, Succession may have won the battle for nomination count – but will it win the war for the awards themselves?
