Several hundred Citra bikes are on their way to the east coast.
The latest and greatest
With petrol prices soaring, we all need to find creative ways to make our dollars go the extra mile. And Lime is hoping it has the solution. It’s trialing a new shared, low-speed moped on Long Beach that it’s hoping will be slightly more successful than its west coast version.
Lime quietly brought its New York and Washington trials to an end, deciding instead to focus on slower, more mobile mopeds that can use bike lanes. So, is the Citra the real deal?
Hitching a ride
It’s all part of Lime’s drive to become more than just another scooter company, and more of a low-speed ride hailing platform. Lime already lets users hop onto pedal-less e-bikes, and the Citra is just the latest vehicle Lime users can make the most of.
The bike has a larger than usual seat, meaning there’s plenty of comfort for any passengers you fancy driving around Long Beach. The Citra is electric, but it can still travel up to 30 miles on a single charge, making it perfect for weaving your way around the city.
It’s only a trial, so we’ll have to wait and see whether the Citra goes the same way as some of Lime’s other ill-fated experiments. But a simple, easy-to-use electric vehicle for getting from place to place? Sounds like a good idea to us.
