Nike is unveiling its range of NFT goodies – and buyers are loving them.
Digital scarcity
Sneakers are investments worth splashing the cash on. There are some real-world sets that can fetch five-figure sums, and you can say goodbye to a million or two if you wanted an authentic pair of Jordans worn by the great man himself.
So why do meta kids have to miss out on the expensive fun? Nike is just the latest brand to start bringing out exclusive NFTs for the metaverse, banking on it being a new frontier for the business. And just how much does an exclusive Nike sneaker go for? $130,000, if you ask a recent investor.
The next frontier
The sneaker in question is part of the exclusive Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks collection, which is a range of 20,000 NFTs launched in collaboration by Nike and RTKFT, a virtual sneaker design business bought by the firm in December 2021.
This isn’t just a tentative move into the meta space either. Nike has created Nikeland in the Roblox metaverse and has also previously been behind a range of NFTs put together with Bored Ape Yacht Club.
And it’s not just Nike that’s keen to see its garments going non-fungible. Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci are two other notable clothes retailers taking things digital. If going meta is up your street, why not splash the cash on some premium clothes.
