A further $800 million worth of weaponry has been promised to Ukraine as its war with Russia enters month number three.

To Ukraine, with love

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call to arms has not gone unanswered. Only recently, US and European leaders were pressed by the Ukrainian president to provide heavier arms and equipment to fight off Russia’s eastern efforts.

Now, another batch of US military assistance to Ukraine is on the way, with Howitzer artillery systems, 40,000 artillery rounds, armored personnel vehicles, and other weapons making up part of the $800 million care package.

Special delivery

Despite vetoing Poland’s supply of fighter jets to Ukraine, the US hasn’t given up on getting heavy weaponry to the Ukrainians. While the latest arms won’t include jets, Ukraine can expect 11 Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters, which were originally headed for Afghanistan.

The good news for Ukraine is that the delivery process can be turned around incredibly quickly. One senior defense official said that assistance can be inbound in as little as 48-72 hours, along with a quick turnaround between the US Defense Department and Ukraine’s own weaponry trainers.

Whether the latest inbound support proves to be a game-changer remains to be seen, but as the conflict wages on, the US remains steadfast in its support of Zelensky and the people of Ukraine.
